What’s The Best Protein Powder Without Fillers?

Posted by on Aug 1, 2017 in Health and Fitness |

When you’re spending your hard earned money on something as important as protein powder, you want to know for sure that you’re getting your money’s worth. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t like it when I find out a product is skimping on the real ingredients that I want in favor of cheap fillers so they can make more profit off of me than they deserve to. Fillers and junk that shouldn’t be in my protein powder makes me cranky.

So, I decided to put together a list of things that you just shouldn’t be finding in the protein powder that you buy, then I’ll give you a list of legit protein powders that don’t skimp on the good stuff. Make no mistake, though: the legit stuff is more expensive on the label, but you’re still paying a pretty decent price considering the cheaper stuff was scamming you in the first place.

  • Saccharin – crosses placenta and may remain in fetal tissue
  • Other artificial sweeteners – can cause negative side effects like headaches, migraines, depression, etc
  • Caffeine – this is okay, depending on what you’re using your protein powder for
  • Creatine- this is okay, depending on what you’re using your protein powder for
  • Soy protein – yucky GMO, pesticide-laden filler, can cause thyroid problems
  • Coconut flour – gas/bloating
  • Psyllium – gas/bloating
  • carrageenan – cheap filler
  • Corn syrup solids – cheap filler
  • Dextrin/glucose – contributes to fat storage
  • Skim milk powders/milk solids – cheap filler, additional lactose causes gas
  • Vegetable oils
  • Thickeners/gums – bloating/gas
  • Anything you can’t easily pronounce

Try to stick to protein powders that list as many whole, recognizable ingredients as possible. Organic and non-GMO is best here.

Here are some products that fit that bill as closely as possible. Almost any protein powder you find will have something disagreeable in it; this is about getting as close to zero as possible.

Swhey’s Halo protein powder is made of organic, non-gmo ingredients and includes only things that you can pronounce, like any good food product should.

BN Labs Vegan Protein is pretty additive free, except for some guar gum.

Bone Broth by BeLive is another great natural protein powder that is mostly additive free. It’s non-gmo, with no dairy, artificial preservatives, no soy, and no nuts with 22g of protein per serving.

How Egyptian Cotton Helps You Sleep Better

Posted by on Oct 14, 2016 in Home |

Think about the world that we live in today. It seems that everywhere you turn there are people who are overworked, overly stressed, and simply cannot get enough rest. It seems that everybody is sorely in need of a good night’s sleep. If you are one o the many people today who is having a hard time getting the optimal amount of rest every night then you may think it has to do with the firmness of your mattress. The truth could actually be more simplistic. Your sheets may not be giving you the comfort that you need.

Your Sheets Matter

You probably think that your sheets are not incredibly important to the comfort level of your bed. After all, your mattress is the primary source of comfort. If that is the case then here is a little challenge. Take all of the blankets and sheets off of your mattress and just lay on top of it. Sure it is firm enough, but trying to go for a whole night sleeping with it in that configuration is certainly not ideal. The comfort level of your bed is something that is a group effort from your mattress, blankets, pillows, and sheets.

Your sheets are the first thing you come into contact with when you go to lay down at the end of the day so it makes sense that they are one of the first things you should think of changing to get a better night’s sleep. The best set of sheets you can buy will most likely be made of Egyptian cotton. This is because Egyptian cotton is some of the most durable, stylish, luxurious, and comfortable material that you can possibly buy. You can learn more about Egyptian cotton at Luxury of the Pharaohs, but here is some information that will help you understand why you need Egyptian cotton.

The Egyptian Difference

Egyptian cotton is not the same as the cotton you will find everywhere else. First of all, it is made from a completely different species of plant as regular cotton. Egyptian cotton plants only grow in Egypt. The plants produce a higher fiber count as well as an overall longer fiber. This is due to the unique climate and conditions of Egypt and it is also why you can expect to pay a significant amount more than you would for regular cotton. Higher Quality Higher Price

You may think that the initial price of buying a set of Egyptian cotton sheets is a tad ridiculous. This is a fairly normal reaction, though you may be even more surprised to learn that the higher price is justified. Think about how many sets of sheets you could buy within the span of a decade or two. Now imagine you could only buy one high-quality set of sheets that would last you the same amount of time, but it costs more up front than a single set would. You would think the cost would be justified. That is the case with Egyptian cotton sheets. Be warned, however, there are many vendors that carry knockoff Egyptian cotton so be sure your vendor is authentic.

Remember that Egyptian cotton is ultimately an investment. It is an investment in style. But above all it is an investment in your comfort. When you are fighting the inability to sleep at night you may need to consider the possibility that Egyptian cotton can help. Don’t lose another minute of sleep to discomfort.
